Toledo Public Schools — Toledo Technology Academy and Devilbiss Middle School

Project Details

This school was originally built in 1930 as the Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School, after a civic leader, industrialist, and benefactor who founded the DeVilbiss Company, known for inventing the first fan-powered spray-painting machine which revolutionized the auto finishing industry. He also served as the longest running member of the Toledo Board of Education. The structure is located on a 25.82 acre site at 3301 Upton Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. This classical Colonial and Georgian Revival building is made of brick and limestone. It incorporates approximately 291,664 square feet, which includes two gymnasiums, a 1,310-seat auditorium, and a 5,000 square foot library. The restoration of 157,575 square feet of Toledo’s largest urban school includes accessible entrances, installation of a new elevator, renovated food service cafeteria, complete restoration of the auditorium and library, upgrade to the electrical and plumbing systems, new thermal storage cooling system, and extensive site renovations.

The renovated facility will house The Start Middle School and the Toledo Technology Academy at DeVilbiss Academic and Technology Center and will incorporate all new technology that will allow it to perform as well as a new school.
