Toledo Harbor Light

Toledo, Ohio

Project Details

DPA is currently working with the Toledo Harbor Light Preservation Society in its mission to preserve and restore this historic lighthouse along the Saint Lawrence Seaway in Lake Erie. Since its dedication on May 23, 1904, the Toledo Harbor Light continues to be an important aid for maritime navigation for the many commercial ships that continue to use the Toledo shipping channel. Located 8.4 miles from the mouth of the Maumee River, marking the entrance to the Toledo Harbor, this unique design for a 85 foot high Romanesque four-story brick lighthouse with attached fog signal annex building provides many creative opportunities for reuse of approximately 4,000 square feet, while still remaining an active guide to maritime activity. Alternative energy sources including solar power and geothermal heating are being considered.
