Sustainable Design Practices

Duket Porter Associates seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space. Our designs continually strive to increase the efficiency of buildings and their use of energy, water, and materials, and reducing building impacts on human health and the environment, through appropriate building orientation, design choices, construction material specifications, operation, maintenance, and disposal — collectively the complete building life cycle.

Energy efficiency over the entire life cycle of a building is the most important single goal of sustainable architecture. We use many different techniques to reduce the energy needs of buildings and increase their ability to capture or generate their own energy. We also assist the building owner in implementing a Maintenance Plan to ensure energy efficiency.

Duket Porter Associates seeks to achieve not only ecological but aesthetic harmony between a structure and its surrounding natural and built environment. Our sustainable building designs are built out of recycled and sustainable materials that have a low environmental impact. There are several key steps in designing sustainable buildings: specify 'green' building materials from local sources, reduce environmental impact loads, optimize systems, generate on-site renewable energy, and divert waste from already overtaxed landfills.

Duket Porter Associates is a member of the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC) with a number of LEED® accredited professionals on staff.
